How to get married at the courthouse in Washington, DC
To get married at the courthouse in Washington D.C., you need to follow these steps:
Obtain a marriage license from the D.C. Superior Court Clerk's office located at 500 Indiana Ave NW, Washington, D.C. 20001.
Both partners must appear in person to apply for the license and present valid photo identification and proof of age.
There is a 72-hour waiting period after obtaining the license before the wedding ceremony can take place.
Contact the Superior Court Clerk's office to schedule the ceremony. Civil marriage ceremonies are performed by judges or court-appointed officiants.
The ceremony fee is $45 and must be paid in advance.
After the ceremony, the couple will receive a signed marriage certificate.
It is recommended to check with the Superior Court Clerk's office for any updates on their requirements and procedures as they are subject to change. Don’t forget to hire a photographer!

Fairfax Virginia Courthouse Wedding - Portraits at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park
Alex & Sebastian had a private wedding ceremony at Fairfax Courthouse in Fairfax, Virginia! I love capturing intimate courthouse weddings. elopements, and private ceremonies in Washington DC and Northern Virginia! Photography was not allowed at the time inside the court house but I still had the honor of witnessing the ceremony! Afterwards we went to Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Chantilly, Virginia and then Downtown Washington DC and The National Mall for portraits! It's always great to choose some locations for after the ceremony for portraits other then the courthouse. Here are some of my favorite images!
