National Gallery of Art Engagement Session
When Mark & John first messaged me they told me that they were looking for a unique location for their engagement session! Newly engaged, they were coming up to DC from Virginia Beach for a weekend trip and wanted an engagement session without the standard DC monuments or Cherry Blossoms. I recommended the National Gallery of Art which is one of the few spots in DC that allow indoor professional photography. I have captured several sessions at the gallery and always love to go back and capture something new as the galleries sometimes change. The gallery also makes a great location for if it rains. Congratulations on your engagement!

Supreme Court Wedding Ceremony Officiated by Justice Gingsberg
I had the honor of capturing this private wedding ceremony at The Supreme Court officiated by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Gingsburg. Tobias and Aryeh got married in The East Room of The Supreme Court building. I was not permitted to use flash inside the building but the light coming in through the windows of The East Room was perfect! After the ceremony the couple had a toast with their friends and family and we captured some portraits with Justice Gingsberg.
Dumbarton House Wedding Georgetown Washington DC

The Ospreys at Belmont Bay Wedding in Woodbridge, Virginia
Meg & Brennan's winter wedding was at The Ospreys at Belmont Bay in Woodbridge Virginia! The Ospreys is a beautiful golf club located right along The Occocquan River. Meg & Brennan's winter wedding was filled with lots of beautiful Christmas themed details from the moment you entered the venue and throughout the venue space. They had a technology free ceremony asking guest to avoid using their cell phones in order to focus on the ceremony and allowed for me to capture images without cell phones in the way. For the reception catering was provided by Shawn's Smokehouse and music by Black Tie Entertainment! I enjoyed capturing this beautiful wedding along with all the love and candid moments! Even though the temperature was around freezing we were able to go outside to capture some night portraits around the golf club.
Meg choose to have a "first look" with her dad. Her dads reaction when he saw his daughter is her wedding dress on her wedding day for the first time was priceless!

National Gallery of Art Engagement Session & Surprise Proposal
Charles had planned to propose to his girlfriend in Paris France while his finance was on a business trip in November however just before their trip the tragic November 2015 Paris Attacks occurred and their trip was postponed. Changing his plans last minute he decided to propose outside The National Gallery of Art in front of The Glass Pyramids similar to those in Paris at The Louvre. Charles proposed in front of their family who stood by to capture images form their cell phones and then congratulate the newly engaged couple afterwards! Afterwards we walked inside The Gallery of Art to capture some shots in the LED tunnel that connects the two buildings and then some more outside the museum and at The Capitol!
Historic Londontown and Gardens Engagement Session in Annapolis Maryland
I met up with Ron & Joe to capture their engagement session at Historic Londontown and Gardens in Annapolis Maryland last fall! Historic Londontown and Gardens has 23 arces of beautiful park and garden areas making it a great location for weddings and engagement sessions. I had such a fun time capturing Ron & Joe together and am so excited to be apart of their wedding day later this year!

Washington Monument Surprise Proposal
I had an awesome time capturing Greg's surprise proposal to his girlfriend Kristi at The Washington Monument! I love capturing surprise proposals in Washington DC and being presented with new challenges! As a professional photographer it is my job to be able to correctly light and capture moments in any situation. Greg wanted to propose after sunset at the base of The Washington Monument where there is very little to no available light aside from the lights on the monument. Unlike when you are indoors and able to bounce flash from walls and ceilings photographing outdoors in open areas you would need a photographer with the experience to correctly light the subjects with off camera flash. I was able to capture this surprise proposal with the help of a lighting and my knowledge of off camera flash! Afterwards Greg, Kristi and I walked along The National Mall for some more awesome night portraits!

National Gallery of Art Engagement Session | Washington DC Engagement Session
I have always wanted to capture an engagement session at The National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. The Gallery is one of the few museums in DC where you can get away with indoor engagement sessions without a permit. The Gallery of Art is location next to The National Mall along Constitution Avenue between 3rd and 9th street. It consist of 2 separate buildings that connect underground. The museum is open year around to the public free of charge. I met with Will & Anna in the late afternoon/early evening and we started their session inside! It was a pleasure to get to know them as I got them comfortable in front of my camera. I am so excited for their 2016 wedding!
After an outfit change into a more causal outfit we walked through The National Sculpture Garden before they closed at 7pm. The gardens are located just off the National Mall between the National Gallery of Art's west building and The National Museum of Natural History.

Happy National Dog Day | Bringing Your Dog to your Wedding or Engagement Session
August 26th is annual National Dog Day! National dog day brings public awareness to dogs in need of rescue from homelessness and abuse as well as being a day to appreciate the dogs in our lives. National Dog Day was created by the National Dog Day Foundation in 2004.
In honor of this day I wanted to share some images of one my favorite "groomsdog" as well as some tips on bringing your pet to your wedding or engagement session!
if possible and your dog will allow....dress him up! It always makes it extra cute! Check out this cool Pinterest board of doggy wedding attire: here. Remember safety first. Make sure everything fits properly and there is no discomfort.
On your wedding day or for your engagement session be sure to bring someone who can be in charge of your dog. Keep in mind you may not need or want him/her in all the pictures or perhaps you are just bringing your pet to your ceremony and then someone will need to return him home for the reception.
Check with your venue to ensure that pets are allowed, also be sure to notify your photographer. I love working with dogs!

Glenview Mansion Wedding in Rockville, Maryland | Washington DC Wedding Photographer
I captured this beautiful wedding at Glenview Mansion in Rockville, Maryland! The day started off rainy but with luck the rain stopped and the overcast day made for perfect beautiful soft light for outdoor portraits. Do to the weather the ceremony was held indoors. Glenview Mansion is an elegant home listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The home built in 1926 is surrounded by the 156 acre Rockville Civic Center Park. Glenview Mansion can host events up to 200 guest. The cocktail hour was held indoors and allowed guest to tour the art gallery upstairs. Guest were escorted to the reception outside in a tent treated to a buffet dinner and speeches from the parents. Later in the evening festivities continued back inside with dancing and cake cutting.

Sharing another beautiful Washington DC Surprise Proposal and Engagement Session! I am trying my hardest to remember the name of this gardens in NW DC however I cannot! It was absolutely beautiful surrounded by so many flowers and rose gardens. Sometime when I photograph proposals I hide out paparazzi style unknown to the girlfriend and capture the moment doing a portrait session afterwards. This time we started as a portrait session. Once we reached the main rose garden Andrew popped the question after I had posed them in the perfect location!

Matt & Saori tied the knot at The Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale, Virginia. It was a pleasure to capture their day! Although the church strictly prohibited flash photography, we were able to capture many gorgeous images of the ceremony. As a professional photographer it is important to know how to capture images in low-light situations like this! Following the ceremony I was thrilled to have lots of time in the timeline to capture amazing portraits in Georgetown along the waterfront and C&O Canal. The reception was at The Grand Atrium in Tyson's Corner. The Grand Atrium features two levels of event space. The cocktail hour was hosted downstairs while the final touches were put on the dinning room above. Once cocktail hour ended guest were escorted upstairs to a buffet dinner followed by open dancing back downstairs on the dance floor.
Georgetown is one of my favorite locations in DC to take couples for portraits!

Washington DC Self Certified Marriage at Sunrise | Washington DC Wedding Photographer
Amazing portraits at the Lincoln Memorial without tourist? No better time to go this at sunrise! George and Tomas chose to have a self-certified marriage in front of DC's best monuments. Washington D.C. along with only a few states allows self certified marriages where you can be legally married without the presence without the presence of a third-party officiant. In addition to DC, Pennslyvania, Colorado and Wisconsin also allow self-certified marriages.
I was so excited to hear that this soon to be married couple was interested in a sunrise session! Without a sunrise session it is extremely difficult to get some of these images we achieved without crowds or tourist around, especially during high peak season like summer. Another advantage is the beautiful light that is available at this time.
We started their portrait session just after sunrise around 5:30am at The Lincoln Memorial. No one was inside the memorial! My favorite shots are from inside the memorial with the silhoutte looking out at the rest of The National Mall.
Early morning champagne toast!
