Gravelly Point is part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway, managed by the National Park Service, located in Arlington, Virginia just west of the Potomac River and immediately north of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The Park is a great picnic spot and an amazing location for views of planes landing and taking off from DCA. This is a cool location for a surprise proposal outside of DC in Arlington, Virginia!

The Enid Haupt Gardens are right next to the Smithsonian Castle right near the National Mall. These gardens are a beatiful location for engagement photos in DC! The gardens are open daily from dusk to dawn everyday except for Christmas Day. There is no fee and no photography permit needed for this location! DC Surprise Proposal at La Grande Boucherie
La Grande Boucherie in DC is located at 699 14th Street on the corner of 14th and G Street NW, La Grande Boucherie is situated on the most high-profile street in Washington D.C., only a block away from the White House. The restaurant is built in elegant and ornamental Art Nouveau style, evoking the sense of optimism from the turn of the 20th century. The brasserie’s menu features both classic and modern French dishes, with focus on the meat program, raw bar and extravagant large-format meats, ideal for sharing and celebrating. Mahogany wood and glass partitions divide the gargantuan space to create intimate dining experiences. The main dining room highlights a massive curved bar with a metal top imported from Paris, a signature piece of Boucherie. The Spanish Steps in Washington D.C. are not to be confused with the famous Spanish Steps in Rome, Italy. The Spanish Steps in D.C. are a popular landmark located in the Kalorama neighborhood, just off Massachusetts Avenue NW. These steps are actually a staircase that connects Decatur Place NW and S Street NW.
While not as famous as the Spanish Steps in Rome, the Spanish Steps in D.C. still attract visitors and locals alike who appreciate their historical significance and the picturesque surroundings. Washington DC National Gallery of Art Engagement Photos
The National Gallery of Art one of DC’s many free art galleries and museums! They are open daily from 10am-5pm. Admission is always free! The National Gallery of Art is a world-renowned art museum located in Washington, D.C. It is comprised of two buildings: the West Building and the East Building. The West Building, designed by architect John Russell Pope, opened in 1941 and houses a collection of European paintings and sculptures from the Middle Ages to the 1800s, including works by masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Rembrandt. The East Building, designed by architect I.M. Pei, opened in 1978 and focuses on modern and contemporary art, with works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Jackson Pollock.
The museum is renowned for its extensive collection, diverse exhibitions, and educational programs for visitors of all ages. The National Gallery of Art is an important cultural institution, attracting millions of visitors each year, and has become a must-visit destination for art lovers and visitors to Washington, D.C.
I highly recommend the Gallery of Art as one of DC’s best indoor engagement session locations!

I photographed this surprise proposal at the Bartholdi Fountain and Gardens in Washington, DC! The fountain and gardens are apart of the Botanical Gardens and have a great view of the U.S. Capitol in the background! It’s the perfect mix of iconic DC views with flowers and greenery! Capitol Hill Engagement Session

Georgetown Waterfront Park Engagement Photos
Kyle & Lissette scheduled an engagement session in Georgetown early spring to get some casual photos that can be used for their save the date invitations for their fall wedding! I am excited to be photographing their wedding day later this year! Scheduling an engagement session has many great benefits!
Here are 3 reasons to book an engagement session:
1) Feel comfortable with your photographer: An engagement session is a great way to get to know and feel comfortable with your photographer. You’ll get used to being in front of the camera and know the flow of a portrait session. This is great practice for the wedding day!
2) Many uses for photos: Engagement photos have many uses! Most commonly, engaged couples use there engagement photos for “save the dates” and wedding invitations. Some couples also use their photos for a wedding day guest book, or wedding decor. There are endless options!
3) Variety in your photos: An engagement session is a great opportunity to have some causal photos as the wedding day may be more formal. Consider scheduling your engagement session in a different season then your wedding (for example, if your wedding will be in the fall, you can schedule your engagement session in the spring for a different look) When looking back at your wedding and engagement photos you will have variety in options for photos to use around your home.

Lincoln Memorial DC Engagement Session
After Surmeet’s surprise proposal at the bar they first met at in DC earlier in the week, we scheduled an engagement session at The Lincoln Memorial for additional photos! The Lincoln Memorial is one of my favorite monuments in DC for engagement photos! Plenty of options and spots to visit including the columns, the view from the columns, The Reflecting Pool, plus trees and grassy areas nearby! My favorite shot is where we started in between the columns with the iconic DC view of The Reflecting Pool, followed by the Washington Monument and Capitol Building. Consider an early morning sunrise session for the best time of day to go to avoid tourists! A sunrise session is also a great idea during the summer to avoid the heat!

Washington DC Cherry Blossom Engagement Session
The Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC is a popular time to plan an engagement session! Couples start booking and planning for the peak bloom as soon as summer the year before. Every spring Washington DC celebrates The National Cherry Blossom Festival at The Tidal Basin. The annual festival celebrates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from the mayor of Tokyo to the city of Washington DC and honoring the friendship between The United States and Japan. Today the festival last about four weekends and attracts about 1.5 million tourist. The blossoms can be seen around The Tidal Basin, Jefferson Memorial, MLK Memorial, and many other areas.
